Treetown Tech is thrilled to welcome our exceptional summer interns for 2025! These bright minds represent the future of engineering innovation, bringing fresh perspectives and diverse talents to our multidisciplinary team. Let’s meet the passionate individuals who’ll be contributing to Treetown Tech’s cutting-edge projects this summer.

Alexandre Guellec: Data Analysis and Machine Learning

An innovator, good at pattern recognition-Alex brings a fresh eye and an active approach to machine learning.

Alex joins us as a recent graduate from the University of Michigan where he studied Data Science. Having finished out his degree with a focus on machine learning, Alex has developed a keen eye for pattern recognition and optimization in his work- giving him the skills necessary to be an asset in a fast-paced, iterative industry like engineering and a great addition to our team here at Treetown Tech. When he isn’t training machines, he can be found outside training at whatever sport or exercise has caught his attention, never needing much of an excuse to try out a new physical activity.

This summer, Alex will be getting his first taste of hands-on experience with machine learning and computer vision work post-graduation. His stellar work-ethic, fresh approach, and passion for data collection and optimization make him a superb addition to our software engineering team.

Finn Jarvis: Crafting Mechanical Concepts

A problem-solver with hands-on experience, Finn brings mechanical design expertise and a passion for turning concepts into functional prototypes.

Originally from Fowlerville, Michigan, Finn is currently pursuing his degree in Mechanical Engineering. His academic background has equipped him with strong foundations in CAD, material selection, and manufacturing processes. Finn’s interest in product development aligns perfectly with Treetown Tech’s sophisticated approach to prototype creation and manufacturing readiness.

During his internship, Finn will work closely with our mechanical engineering team on projects involving thermal management systems and structural components for complex electromechanical assemblies. His hands-on experience and enthusiasm for bringing designs from concept to reality make him an ideal addition to our product development initiatives.

Mai Doan: Powering Battery Systems

A detail-oriented researcher with laboratory experience, Mai brings a good mix of analysis and experimentation to engineering challenges.

Mai returns for a third summer here at Treetown Tech, and we couldn’t be happier to have her with us again! Over the years, Mai has developed strong skills in experimental design, data analysis, and research methodology through her position as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Potkay Lab. Her keen eye for detail and exposure to rigorous testing protocols are invaluable qualities that make a great impact with the team.

Mai will be working with our battery technology team this summer, contributing to projects involving battery management systems and performance testing. Her background in research will be instrumental in developing testing methodologies and analyzing performance data for next-generation energy storage systems.

Matt Giles: Managing Multi-Domain Projects

A systems optimization specialist with hands-on mechatronics expertise, Matt brings a unique blend of Industrial Engineering principles and hands-on mechatronics experience to project coordination.

Currently a senior at the University of Michigan studying Industrial and Operations Engineering, Matt has developed a passion for optimization through diverse experiences – from perfecting complicated beverage processes in the restaurant industry to designing life-detection systems for Mars rovers. His three-year leadership role as Instrumentation and Sample Handling Lead with Michigan Mars Rover demonstrates his ability to manage complex technical projects under demanding conditions.

Matt’s impressive achievements include leading the development of onboard science enclosures for life detection tests and contributing to the team’s highest-scoring Systems Acceptance Review in the world. His experience designing sample handling systems for international competitions, including a 5th place finish in the Indian Rover Design Challenge, showcases his ability to deliver results in high-stakes environments.

During his internship at Treetown Tech, Matt will apply his systems optimization mindset and technical project leadership experience to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering initiatives. His combination of Industrial Engineering principles, hands-on robotics experience, and proven ability to manage complex technical systems makes him ideally suited to bridge engineering requirements with business objectives.

Nick Robinson: Balancing Functionality and Aesthetics

Blending mechanical engineering with artistic design, Nick brings a human-centered approach to technical challenges.

Nick joins us from the University of Michigan (U of M), where he majors in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Art and Design. His unique educational background combines technical expertise with creative problem-solving methodologies, making him particularly skilled at developing solutions that balance functionality with user experience.

Nick gained early experience in UX and perceived quality during his internship on the Craftsmanship team at Tesla, where he was introduced to processes that balance technical performance with aesthetic considerations.

He is also gaining experience in cross-functional design with the Multidisciplinary Design Program at U of M, as a member of the Stryker Surgical Pencil team. His team is working towards developing a new solution for smoke evacuating surgical pencils used by surgeons that offer better ergonomics and control functionality.

This summer, Nick will work with our mechanical engineering team, contributing to projects that require rapid iteration and cross-disciplinary collaboration. His experience in fast prototyping, experimental testing, and design visualization will be valuable assets as he helps transform concepts into functional reality.

Building the Future at Treetown Tech

Together, these talented interns will experience Treetown Tech’s integrated approach to engineering innovation. They’ll contribute to real-world projects while developing their skills in a collaborative environment that balances technical rigor with practical implementation.

“We put a real emphasis on the team, here at Treetown,” explains Casey Alford, Treetown Tech’s Managing Partner. “And we believe that great teams are made up of great people. Finn, Mai, Alex, Matt, and Nick all certainly meet that metric. We’re excited to have them join us this summer and contribute to our ongoing projects while developing the multidisciplinary skills that define modern engineering excellence.”

Welcome to the team, Alex, Finn, Mai, Matt, and Nick! We look forward to an innovative and productive summer together.
