Treetown Tech utilized their software, electrical, and mechanical engineers to help this company create a US ADA compliant wheelchair ramp for a bus.

Treetown Tech has heavily invested in deep technical battery knowledge. It’s a prized area of expertise, and our multi-disciplinary in-house team was excited to put it to use. This challenge turned out to be a triple threat that required skill sets from multiple fields, a favorite solution type to hunt down!
Working with Treetown means access to a range of technical expertise. This project called on our mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and battery engineering teammates to collaborate and flush out a solution.
This project spanned about 3–4 months, during which we independently tackled the customer’s challenges with minimal oversight—freeing them to focus on other high-value priorities. By combining deep analytical expertise in thermal simulation and FEA with decades of experience in batteries and power management, we proactively identified and addressed issues before they were fully defined by the customer.
This client had the kind of challenges we love digging into, where the solution has a few surprises along the way. On its surface, the primary problem was significant thermal issues for an industrial Li-ion battery pack for forklifts, but the solution required a different approach as well. They came to Treetown for our deep expertise in battery pack management and prototype development, and didn’t leave this rabbit hole disappointed!
After initial meetings to gain a thorough understanding of project requirements and the client’s needs, our team got to work.
One of the perks of a completely in-house team is that we can hit the ground running and begin testing to pinpoint the source of the problem. That’s exactly what we did to start. Knowing the main problem they faced, we conducted thermal simulations to uncover the hotspots and battery pack inefficiencies, exploring where to optimize the BMS controls.
Through testing, we discovered that a custom bus bar was needed for electrical routing and that we needed to create a full mechanical enclosure, including ballast. While our team of mechanical, electrical, and battery engineers crafted these solutions, we used FEA simulation to prove durability and source first prototype materials, ensuring the battery could withstand use and that assembly went smoothly.
At every iteration, we retested to ensure no hotspots or inefficiencies remained. Due to our team being multi-disciplinary and working as a cohesive community, there was no lag or wait time because of knowledge gaps. Each engineer had a hand in the solution when it called for their expertise. That’s the road at Treetown Tech.
