Vehicle Design and Analysis

Partner with a Company That Knows Vehicle Design & Analysis

A well-known work truck manufacturer came to Treetown to develop a new next-generation Class II vehicle that would sit on more than one electric chassis. With engineering needs spanning multiple specialties, Treetown was the perfect partner for this manufacturer since we have a full in-house team of engineering specialists that can work together to consider each aspect and function of a project.

Engineering Services Used

In addition to a dedicated project manager, this project required Treetown to bring in electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to collaborate on the vehicle elements and telematics to create a fuctional integrated product.

Project Timeline

We were able to accomplish substantial results on a very short timeline, primarily because we had fabrication, software, and hardware all under one roof. By working with Treetown, the client was able to showcase their product at an upcoming industry conference which led to committed orders for product.

Developing a Next-Gen Class II Vehicle

Not only did the Class II vehicle need to be on more than one electric chassis, this manufacturer also wanted to integrate advanced electronics and telematics. Mainstream electronics providers weren’t able to provide the custom software and hardware they needed and while this company could have hired FTE experts, it would have cost them 4-6 months and heavy expenses to hire the advanced expertise they needed.

Our Solution & Results

After initial meetings to understand the clients needs and scope of the project, our team worked to create an in-house solution that would be much faster than hiring an FTE expert. From materials selection and prototyping to fabrication and integration, Treetown was with this client every step of the way.

We created FEA and simulations of the vehicle elements, created computational fluid dynamics simulations to test HVAC and vehicle aerodynamics. Our software and electrical teams worked on the highly customized telematics system and integrated it into the vehicle’s technology system. Treetown developed custom electronic control unit modules and subsystem prototypes that were highly tested and validated.

Working with Treetown Tech also allowed their team to dial up and down based on the funding available. During the project, we were able to pull back on work then come back to it as more funding was available while making sure the same people were on the project the entire time keeping all of the knowledge and expertise consistent.

Through our resident experts in the work-truck industry, we new the use cases, the strongest value propositions for their buyers and how the vehicles needed to perform. Because we could fabricate, develop software, and build the hardware all under one roof, we were able to complete the project within our facility in time for the client’s industry conference.
