Meet Treetown Tech’s 2024 Interns

It wouldn’t quite be summertime without a group of young folks taking over the halls at Treetown Tech learning everything they can in between their winter and fall semesters. We look forward to their energy every year, and this group is a particularly special bunch. How about we introduce you?

Meet Mai (Again!)

Mai (she/her) was with us last summer learning the ropes; this year she’s feeling more confident about designing things on her own. She loves seeing products that she’s worked on—like drawing different parts for an ice flume—come to fruition.

In addition to her interest in engineering, Mai’s also a singer-songwriter. Not only did she recently conduct a Lunch & Learn at Treetown Tech highlighting the overlap between music and electrical engineering, she also just released a new song, “New Perfect Kinda Love.”

Meet Asante

Asante (he/him) comes to us with his Associates Degree in Cybersecurity and an abiding interest in all things tech-related. This summer he’s getting his feet wet with some engineering as well as working on IT. His big project? A Python plotting program, which will set him up nicely for his first semester at U of M’s School of Information where he was recently accepted!

We especially love having Asante around because, as a non-engineer, he provides a valuable perspective and skillset. (Thanks for fixing that label maker!)

Meet Ben

Ben (he/him) just completed his Bachelors Degree in electrical engineering and will be heading right off to start his Masters this fall. We’ve been stretching his skillset with projects on control systems and software image processing—a nice step up from the electrical wiring projects of his high school days.

One of the biggest benefits from his time at Treetown Tech, Ben says, is getting to learn firsthand about the split between general knowledge and specialization in just one or two areas.

Meet Lydia

Lydia (she/her) is heading into her sophomore year of her mechanical engineering program. Although she’s dabbled in some biomedical and electrical engineering throughout her education, she’s come to enjoy mechanical most, especially design work.

This summer she’s leaning into the learning process, getting hands on with design and prototyping. It’s really brought what she’s learned in her first-year classes into focus, and she can already tell that everything will lock right into place when she’s back in the classroom.

Meet Seung-Gu

Seung-Gu (he/him) is one of our software engineering interns this summer, gearing up for his final year at U of M. He’s been interested in computer science and coding since he was a kid. After his mom discovered him coding a bunch of Minecraft mods, she actually suggested he pursue it! (That’s a pretty cool mom right there.)

This summer, he’s been hard at work on an internal software project as well as developing web interfaces for clients. We’re lucky to have him (and his stuffed shark) on the team!

We value hands-on learning at Treetown Tech. That’s why we provide opportunities for students to work in the “real world.” If you’re interested in learning more about an internship opportunity, reach out to our team today!
